Prayer for April 17 – Lord, Help Me Let Go
Letting go sounds easy until you actually have to do it. Sometimes we hold on, not because it’s helping us, but because it became part of our identity. We hold on to what hurt us. We hold on to who left us.
We hold on to things we can’t fix, moments we can’t change, and seasons that already ended. But healing begins with release. The longer you grip what God is calling you to release, the longer your hands will be too full to receive what’s next.
Today’s prayer is for those of us still clutching something we were never meant to carry. God is not asking us to forget. He is asking us to trust. And trust often looks like loosening our grip on what we cannot control.
Bible Verse for April 17
“Casting all your care upon him. For he careth for you.” – 1 Peter 5 verse 7
Prayer for April 17
Lord,
You know how tightly I hold on to things. To outcomes. To expectations. To old pain. You know how I replay what I should have done, what they should have said, what could have been different. But today I want to be honest with You. I am tired. Carrying all of this is too heavy. So I bring it to You and I say, please take it. Help me let it go.
I don’t want to keep rehearsing pain in my mind. I don’t want to stay stuck in stories You’ve already redeemed. I don’t want to define my future by what happened in my past. I want to be free. I want to be whole. I want to walk into new things without dragging the old ones behind me.
Teach me that surrender is not weakness. It is wisdom. Letting go does not mean I am giving up. It means I am giving it to You. You know what I need better than I do. You know how to restore what was broken. You know how to bring beauty from disappointment. And I choose to trust You with it.
If I am holding on to someone who has already walked away, help me not to chase what You have released. If I am holding on to shame, remind me that You already carried that to the cross. If I am holding on to fear, remind me that Your love casts it out. Give me courage to release, even when it’s uncomfortable.
Today, Lord, I let go of what weighs me down so I can hold on to what lifts me up — Your Word, Your love, Your promise, Your presence. That is enough for me.
In the name of Jesus,
Amen.
Action for the Day
Write down the one thing you know God has been nudging you to release. Say it out loud in prayer, then throw the paper away. It is not yours to carry anymore.
